Massimo Barzagli (Marradi 1960)

He begins in 1990 with a personal exhibition at Fabio Sargentini's L’Attico gallery. Barzagli's painting consists of two elements: the color with which the artist paints directly on the model’s body (human bodies, animals, plant elements) and the surface on which he then imprints the painted bodies. The canvas becomes the protagonist of an event, and artistic creation becomes performance. Barzagli has always experimented different expressive forms by combining photography, performance and installation. In the last few years Barzagli's figuration seems to have abandoned the process of pictorial imprint, but the interest in the physical relationship with the object represented has not disappeared: the images are the result of accurate staging, in which the objects become the traces of a past time, converted into an emotional, magical and imaginary present. The Beautiful Paintings exhibition was held in the Guastalla Centro Arte gallery in 2004. In 2012 he exhibited at the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato with an important anthological exhibition entitled “Grandezza naturale”. A work Omaggio a Modigliani is exhibited in the Casa Natale Amedeo Modigliani in Livorno.
