Antonio Corpora
Biography

Antonio Corpora (Tunisi 1909 – Roma 2004)

In Italy, after the war, Corpora promotes a radical and necessary renewal of pictorial language. In 1945 he founded the Neocubist group with Guttuso and then tried to perpetuate artistic renewal thanks also to the experiences of the "Fronte Nuovo delle Arti" and of the group of "Eight Italian Painters" to overcome the Novecento’s painting, receiving several awards at the Venice Biennale between 1948 and 1956. Corpora is not influenced by fashions, as he himself says: "There are few who have understood the need for a new conscience, a conscience that is truly free from schemes and prejudices. I use the means that painting offers because I am a painter (..) ". In the fifties he approaches expressionism until he reaches the informal of the 1960s. In the last production, we note a progressive freeing of the image from any kind of organizational structure other than that concerning the "quality" of color: a color that relives of Parisian experiences.

In 2007 Guastalla Centro Arte hosts an exhibition entitled “Sinfonia di luce” with works from 1957 to 2000 with a presentation to the catalog by Luciano Caprile.
