Ardengo Soffici (Rignano sull’Arno 1879- Forte dei Marmi 1964)
A writer and painter, he moved to Florence in 1893 to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. From 1899 to 1907 he lived in Paris, where he came in contact with French artistic culture and met artists such as Guillaume Apollinaire, Pablo Picasso and Max Jacob. In 1907 he returned to Florence, where in 1908 he founded, together with Giuseppe Prezzolini and Giovanni Papini, the magazine “La Voce.” Later, in 1913, with Papini and Aldo Palazzeschi, he founded the futurist magazine “Lacerba.” After World War I, he abandoned the avant-garde for a determined return to order, drawing inspiration from the Tuscan Trecento and Quattrocento, painting still lifes and landscapes from life.
